Q.Why are my captures not visible in PowerPoint™?
A. mediaCam creates PowerPoint slides
from templates. If you have tried to create your own template
in PowerPoint 2K then this may be the problem. If you have
PowerPoint XP then create your templates in this or alternatively
open one of the supplied templates and edit it.

Q. I cannot see the screen capture when I play a clip.
A. mediaCam and mediaPlay save their last settings. If the screen preview window was closed the last time the program was exited then the Replay screen option must be rechecked in the Options Page.

Q. I keep capturing the mediaCam interface in my captures.
A. If there is not enough space on the screen to accommodate the capture area and the mediaCam interface, consider using the ‘Autohide’ option or controlling mediaCam from the tool tray by right clicking on the mediaCam icon.

Q. On replay, the audio quality is poor.
A. Ensure that the level meter on the Audio page is displaying a reasonable level, if not use the Level slider to adjust it. If after setting the level, poor audio is still a problem and you are using a laptop computer, consider using an external microphone, or on a desktop try repositioning the microphone.

Q. I chose a window to capture but when I moved the window during capture, part of the information was lost.
A. Once a window has been chosen, its coordinates are converted to an area of the screen and this is what is captured. If you wish to capture the movement of windows around the desk top then consider capturing the entire screen.

Q. How do I recover ‘deleted’ captures?

Q. Can I compress mediaCam captures to decrease their size?
A. mediaCam captures are already compressed. Applications like WinZip™ will have little effect on the size of the files.

Q. Can I predict how much disk space a capture will require?
A. The size of a capture file will depend on several factors. The main factors are the screen size; whether video is captured; whether audio is captured; the size of the video image and its quality; the quality of the screen capture; the amount of on-screen activity and the nature of the information being displayed on the screen. An average capture of screen, video and audio will be between 2 – 5 Meg a minute.

Q. mediaCam reports my graphic card is not running in 16 bit mode, what do I do ?
A. The version of mediaCam you have has been designed to work without impacting on the performance of other applications; the optimum screen colour depth setting to achieve this is 16 bit. To change your screen colour depth settings go to Control Panel and click on Display, select the Settings tab and under the Colors option choose High Color (16 bit).

Q. When I capture the interface of Windows Media Player, I only see a black box on replay.
A. Unfortunately some graphic cards do not display video onscreen but in an overlay if you find when recording you get a blank or sometimes pink/purple box where the video should have been your graphic card is using an overlay. To allow you to record the video you will need to turn down your hardware acceleration on your graphic card. This can be done by a right mouse click on the desktop to pull up the 'Display Properties' dialog box, select the 'Settings' tab, then choose the 'Advanced' button, you should have an option for 'Troubleshooting', select this and try altering the slider control until your video can be captured.

Q. In the capture file properties dialog the last accessed time is always 00:00:00.
A. The last accessed information is only available under the NTFS and not FAT32 file system.

Q. When I export my capture to an AVI from mediaCam AV, there is a noticeable deterioration in quality. Can I do anything about this?
A. If the High Quality Video option is checked on the first page of the export wizard various techniques will be used to reduce the loss of quality during the export process. When the deterioration is caused by rescaling or resizing these techniques can have a dramatic effect. If the capture is not being resized any loss of quality is the result of the codec chosen to compress the video. (When a capture is being 'shrunk' a low pass filter is used and when the capture is being expanded a bilinear interpolation is used.) .

Q. I would like to pause mediaCam during a capture, but I do not want to interact with the desktop. Is there any way I can do this?

- Atl-Ctrl F9 Stop
- Atl-Ctrl F10 Play
- Atl-Ctrl F11 Pause
- Atl-Ctrl F12 Record

Q. My Web Cam doesn't seem to be working any ideas ?
A. There are several things to check when a Video device is not operating correctly or is not visible as a device in mediaCam.
Access the device manager from system properties and search
for the device you are checking under the "Imaging Devices"
section.
If the device is visible then view the device properties
and check that its status is "Working Properly" and that it
is "enabled".
Check that the device is accessible and working in any software
provided by the manufacturer of the device.
Check with the manufacturer's documentation that the device
comes with DirectX 8 compatible drivers and registers itself
as a video capture device.

Q. Can we capture one still screen shot with mediaCam to import into programs such as Word and PhotoShop ?
A. Yes you can.Simply capture your screen using mediaCam, then play your capture back to the appropriate point, click the right mouse button on the preview screen, and select the copy to clipboard option from the context menu, go to whatever program you wish and select paste.
Capturing this way has the advantage that you will be able to pick and preview exactly the right frame grab before you commit yourself.
